Earlier this month, I was recognized as the 2026 Best Interior Designer in the area by the Best of Clark County – an annual community choice awards contest hosted by The Columbian newspaper since 2008.
It got me thinking…out of all the talent in this area, what actually makes someone the best interior designer to hire?
The ability to curate a room in an aesthetically pleasing manner is one part of it, but I think it goes far beyond just that. Remodels, new builds, and even “simple furnishing updates” require an incredible amount of organization, communication, responsible money management, and the ability to carry a good attitude through even the toughest of moments.

Since the moment I started Emily Jean Interior Design, I have been deeply invested in optimizing my systems and processes, both internally for my growing team and externally for client-facing touchpoints. Now let's be real. Design and construction projects are never all sunshine and rainbows, but you know what makes a rainy day a little brighter? A good attitude. When delays happen, things break, or the installer misses a spot, I show up with a good "get it done" attitude that pushes the outcome in a positive direction, rain or shine, quite literally, if you live here in Vancouver, Washington.
